Cosmetic Ear Surgery (Otoplasty) in New York

Cosmetic Ear surgery, or Otoplasty, is a procedure designed to correct and reshape abnormally protruding or misshapen ears . This procedure is especially popular for children who are self-conscious about their ears . Dr. Lefkovits recommends that protruding ears be repaired by about 5-6 years of age by which time the ears have reached near total development.

The Procedure
Otoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia in adults, but requires sedation in children. Dr. Lefkovits will make an incision in the back of the ear so the scar will remain inconspicuous. The ear cartilage is then manipulated and reshaped to a normal contour.

Recovery
Following Otoplasty, a bandage is worn for about 5 days after which a light compression garment may be worn at night for a short while. Stitches are removed at 10 to 14 days postoperatively.
